Greyhawk

The Great Kingdom is sundered, collapsed into chaos after the terrible Greyhawk Wars. An insane overking, advised by a malefic priesthood and conversing with fiends atop his malachite throne, slew and revivified
many of his local noble rulers as animuses, undead creatures of cold, hateful passions.

Great armies once the envy of the Flanaess wander the
lands as freebooting mercenaries and pillagers, stripping the once-abundant treasures of this great nation.
More than 300 years of slow degeneration and decline have climaxed in an appalling tragedy. Hundreds of
thousands of men, women, and children have perished, and many more will follow in the years ahead.

Session 8

Day 2 of the Richfest Festival (Midsummer), 586 CY
Well, it is Starday and we decided that we need to infiltrate the bell tower to rid the city of as many Were Rats as possible. We went to the tower and asked if we could enter but the person behind the door rudely said “no”. We tried to force our way in but were not successful. Then we staked out the tower for the rest of the day to see if the bell ringer would come out but he never did.

That night we visited a local pub called the Laughing Manticore where Argoth met a friend named Kallo. He said that Capt. Murdick Forren was last seen at the Chatterspeak Market. He also mentioned that the Dwarven weapon smith Shoomma might know something so we decided to visit her the next morning. We planned to meet at Tim’s house.

Day 3 of the Richfest Festival (Midsummer), 586 CY

On the way to Tim’s house in the morning we saw that a dead body had been found in the street (Bryll while heading home was ambushed by a single wererat whom was taking revenge on the party member because of the fact that his brother was killed by them yesterday). The city guard was stopping people and questioning them about the murder. After meeting at Tim’s house we went to see Shoomma.

Shoomma was a little rude and we did not get much out of her. She had last seen Capt. Forren in her store. He was asking about the recent extortion and robberies that had been inflicted on the merchants in Muskrad. Apparently she was also a victim.

Tim and Kirk decided to try to find a scroll of knock to aid in entering the tower. Tim also wanted to check the tower for secret doors. As he searched for doors he found a loose stone that was hollowed out and had a key in it. Back at the Chatterspeak Market, Bryll noticed the Tiefling from the previous encounter walking through the busy streets of the city. Bryll followed the Tiefling to the belltower where he briefly stopped and spoke with someone at the door. Bryll tried to follow him again when he left but lost him rather quickly. Later, the party gathered and it was decided that it would be better to go in during the day.

Day 4 of the Richfest Festival (Midsummer), 586 CY

They went back to the tower and discovered that the key opened the door. After entering the tower they met Turvin the bell tower’s keeper. Turvin was not willing to release any information about the Were Rats accept that he knew they were in the tower. He did admit through party intimidation that he spoke briefly with the Tiefling as well. When a brawl on the stairs ensued Bryll knocked out Turvin with one solid blow. The party found that the tower was in fact infested with many direrats, rats, and wererats! The five story bell tower was a difficult task to clear out, but it was done! After working their way up the staircase to the top of the tower many more Dire Rats and Were Rats were killed or defeated. At the top of the tower the party killed one more direrat and captured a wererat one more Were Rats when the fight seemed to be over. Suddenly the bell tower seem to come alive when to stone statues animated and turned their attention on the party. They were Gargoyles. A magical beast that neither party member encountered before! The battle became a extremely difficult one, but with luck on their side, the party won! One other were rat was captured to turn in. Kirk cut out the hearts of four more were rats to be sold.
